Sound propagation middleware

Let the world shape the sound.

Advanced sound propagation for video games. Bring spaces to life with convincing acoustics, creative control, and a system that works with your audio engine.

01 / Overview

Sound that belongs
in your world.

BvSound offers a comprehensive, high-fidelity solution for sound propagation in video games, alongside a suite of game audio features. It supports all major game platforms and is designed to integrate with any game engine or audio middleware, with out-of-the-box support for Wwise, FMOD, and Unreal Engine.

01

Through and around

Simulate transmission loss through materials, diffraction around portal edges, and sound repositioning. Obstruction accounts for sound passing through and around smaller obstacles along each propagation path.

02

The character of a space

Model indirect sound with early and late reflections that work together as a complete reverb solution. Connect each sound to the acoustic character of the space around it.

03

Living environments

Respond to real-time changes in sound geometry and build environmental ambiences with volumetric emitters and flexible emitter shapes. Preserve sound quality with smooth transitions and minimal artifacts.

01.1 / Overview — For sound designers

Your creative vision.
Your acoustic world.

Convincing propagation is the starting point. BvSound gives sound designers control over each feature, so the acoustics serve the creative direction of the game, with an emphasis on sound quality, smooth transitions, and minimal artifacts.

Shape the experience

Tune and customize propagation features to match your project. Shape how sounds travel through materials, around obstacles, and into the surrounding space, without giving up control of the final experience.

Keep the world connected

Bring direct sound, reflections, reverb, and environmental ambience together in one system. Use volumetric emitters and configurable emitter shapes to create sounds that occupy spaces, while geometry changes are handled in real time.

01.2 / Overview — For programmers

Room for your architecture.

BvSound is a high-performance runtime library that sits between your game and its audio playback solution. Add a comprehensive propagation feature set without investing years of development or maintaining all of the specialist expertise in-house.

Fit your architecture

Integrate with your chosen game engine and audio middleware while keeping playback in your existing audio solution. Customize memory management, sound geometry handling, raycasts, and serialization to match your architecture.

Geometry and raycasts

User-defined sound geometry drives transmission loss, diffraction, repositioning, and late reflections. Raycasts in the game world handle obstruction and early reflections.

Control the runtime budget

The raycast-based obstruction system scales with configurable raycasts-per-frame budgets and supports hardware raycasts on platforms where they are available.

02 / Integrations & platforms

Built to fit your technology.

Ready-to-use integrations. Flexibility for custom integrations. Support for all major game platforms.

Integrations

Developed and maintained by BvSound

Working with a proprietary engine?

BvSound is designed to integrate with any game engine or audio middleware. Our customers have successfully integrated it into proprietary game engines, audio engines, and editors.

Discuss your integration requirements ↗

BvSound’s customizable API lets you connect its core systems, including memory management, logging, physics, and serialization, to the corresponding systems in your engine.

BvSound’s custom mixing provides a consistent audio experience across engines and platforms.

03 / Licensing

Let’s find the right license.

Custom

Choose the license components your project needs and pay only for those.

For example, you may want to license only automated geometry generation, or runtime features without full source code access or support.

Support

Our team fully supports the latest and second-latest versions of BvSound.

Full license includes support throughout production and for 6 months after launch. Customers communicate with our team through email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.

Included with Support

  • Answers to questions about integrating and using BvSound and its features.
  • Best-effort commitment to investigate and address reported BvSound issues in a timely manner. Blocking issues, such as crashes, are normally resolved within 24 hours.
  • Feature requests approved by our team. We try to accomodate customers' needs as much as possible.
  • A reasonable amount of performance profiling of your BvSound setups, at our team’s discretion.

Bug Reports

  • BvSound supports serializing propagation data that customers can share with our team to help us reproduce and investigate issues.
  • We typically investigate reported issues on our own equipment.
  • Our customers frequenty choose to provide us with remote or physical access to their equipment so we can debug or profile directly in their project environment.

Not Included

Support does not include integrating or maintaining BvSound in your project, or other work within your codebase.

Initial integration is available for a flat fee. More extensive work is available under a consulting agreement.
